Domain Name

You know, that word after http://www .

A domain name is the word you will commonly se in the address bar of your browser. A domain name is used to give mask a complex number called an IP address, and give that IP address a more memorable name. For instance, a buisness owner may have a website hosted with a hosting provider. The hosting provider will give that website an IP address. The website will need to register a domain name through a registrar, who will in turn register that name and give it a DNS pointer that can be used to point to the IP address provided by the hosting company.

For all of this to work, you will need to be able to login to your domain name registrar's website and use their tools to change the Domain Name Servers to point to the address the hosting company has provided you.
